Why this is different

You've read the conflicting advice. Let's clear it up.

If you've searched "PKD diet" and walked away more confused than when you started, or been told there's nothing to do but drink water and watch your salt, that's not a you problem. Most of what's out there is generic kidney disease advice dressed up as PKD guidance. It's not the same thing.

Nutrition does make a difference for PKD.

Nutrition has become one of the most exciting areas of PKD research. These modules separate promising science from speculation and translate it into practical next steps.

PKD ≠ generic kidney disease.

Most "kidney diet" content is written for late-stage CKD. The two diverge on potassium, phosphorus, protein, and the role of cyst-specific metabolic levers. Module 1 starts there.

Short, specific, and doable.

No fluff and no 40-hour course. Five focused modules, each ending with action steps and a recipe, so you can put something into practice the same day.

What's inside

Five questions, answered without the noise.

Here's exactly what unlocks the moment you join. Each module is a short video plus a recipe card you can cook this week.

Module 01 · 25 min

Clearing the Noise

25 min Clearing the Noise Unlocks inside

Why most kidney nutrition advice doesn't actually apply to PKD, and what to do instead.

  • Why most "PKD diet" advice is actually CKD advice - and why that matters.
  • Whether you need to restrict potassium at all (most patients over-restrict).
  • The real driver of high phosphorus: inorganic phosphate additives.
  • The protein debate, settled: 0.8 - 1.3 g/kg, individualized by labs.

Recipe included: Charred Corn, Avocado & Tomato Salad (keto-kidney)

Module 02 · 14 min

Fluid & Sodium

14 min Fluid and Sodium Unlocks inside

The same mechanism tolvaptan targets - and how nutrition supports it.

  • The vasopressin mechanism: why hydration and sodium matter beyond blood pressure.
  • A real fluid target: ~3 liters / ~100 oz per day, spread evenly.
  • A real sodium target: 1,500 - 2,300 mg/day.
  • How to know you're getting it right without labs.

Recipe included: Electrolyte Drink (keto-kidney)

Module 03 · 16 min

Cutting Carbs & Sugar

16 min Cutting Carbs and Sugar Unlocks inside

Not a keto sales pitch - just the PKD-specific science on carbs, glucose, and cyst growth, plus realistic swaps.

  • Why carbs are even part of the PKD conversation.
  • What the 2019 landmark study found about cyst growth and glucose.
  • How to think about carbs on a spectrum (fiber-rich vs. refined).
  • Simple lower-carb swaps to try - no total diet overhaul.

Recipe included: PKD-Friendly 90-Second Keto Bread

Module 04 · 12 min

Managing Oxalates

12 min Managing Oxalates Unlocks inside

Why your spinach smoothie and almond-flour pancakes might be working against you - and what to do instead.

  • Why oxalates matter in PKD: the mTOR / STAT-3 cyst-formation link.
  • The highest-oxalate "everyday healthy foods": spinach, almonds, cashews, beets.
  • The 4 oxalate-management strategies that actually work.
  • Real numbers to aim for, and the best PKD-friendly nut.

Recipe included: Feta Kale Salad with Roasted Red Pepper Dressing

Module 05 · 12 min

Exploring Fasting

12 min Exploring Fasting Unlocks inside

Whether fasting fits your PKD plan - and how to start safely.

  • How fasting may benefit PKD, and the metabolic logic behind it.
  • The 5 fasting windows, from 12:12 (beginner) to OMAD.
  • How to start safely - the gradual ramp protocol.
  • The 3 hard contraindications you must know first.

Recipe included: Shirataki Noodle Green Curry

Kelly Welsh, Registered Dietitian
Who's teaching

Kelly Welsh, RD

Kelly is a Registered Dietitian with 20+ years of clinical experience who specializes in nutrition for polycystic kidney disease - and she lives with PKD herself. These modules are the exact PKD-specific framework she walks patients through, distilled into five short, practical videos.

These modules are educational and are not a substitute for advice from your own care team. Nutrition won't cure PKD - bring anything you learn here to your dietitian or physician.

Frequently asked

The honest answers.

What exactly do I get for $20?

All five PKD nutrition mini modules (about 12 - 25 minutes each), plus a keto-kidney recipe card with every module. Access is delivered instantly online and is yours for life, including any future updates.

How and when do I get access?

Right after checkout. You'll create a quick login and the modules unlock immediately inside your account, ready to watch on your phone, tablet, or computer whenever you like.

Is this just another magic-bullet diet pitch?

No. We're explicit about this: nutrition won't cure PKD. What the research suggests is that specific, evidence-based dietary levers may support kidney function. If anything here reads like a magic bullet, that's a mistake on our end.

Is Kelly actually qualified to talk about PKD specifically?

Kelly Welsh is a Registered Dietitian with 20+ years of clinical experience who specializes in PKD nutrition - and she's a PKD patient herself. This isn't generic kidney disease content.

I already eat "healthy" - what's different about PKD nutrition?

A lot. Standard "healthy eating" often centers spinach, almonds, almond flour, and high-protein patterns that can work against PKD specifically. Generic kidney advice often over-restricts potassium and phosphorus in ways that aren't appropriate. Module 1 explains the divergence; Module 4 (oxalates) is where the "but I eat spinach!" moment usually happens.

Do I need to watch all 5? Can I skip around?

Skip around. Each module stands alone, so you can start wherever is most relevant to you and come back to the rest whenever you like.

I'm caring for someone with PKD - is this for me?

Yes. A lot of the actual cooking, shopping, and label-reading gets done by partners and family. The modules work just as well for you, and the recipes are ready to cook.

I'm on tolvaptan / Jynarque - is this still relevant?

Yes. Module 2 will be especially interesting: tolvaptan targets the vasopressin pathway, and your hydration and sodium choices act on the same lever. The medication and the nutrition work in the same direction.
